May Letter from the Editor

Hello there, Reader!

I hope the day has treated you well so far! If not, I hope life apologizes for its transgressions with tons and tons of butterflies.

I’m writing to you today after accepting the Woodward Post’s “Editor-in-Chief” position. The weight of this responsibility did not fully sink in until I began typing this letter. Generations of Springs students have written for and edited the Woodward Post; it’s one of the oldest traditions we have here. Since its birth many years ago, The Post has been a colorful place for thinkers to share their whimsey with the world.

We Springsites (or Springsians, if you prefer) are known for being unique thinkers. We come from all over the world to end up here, in Birmingham, Alabama. We bring our backgrounds and eccentricities and quirks and curiosities into everything we do, leaving Springs a wonderful patchwork of community.

So where, you may ask, does the Woodward Post fit into this tapestry? Well, for as long it has been around, it has been a place where anyone can showcase their interests. From Joe Embry’s 1984 Article, “Why Choir is Neo-Fascist Regime”, to Syla Steinman’s 2023 comic, “Chasing Ghosts”, The Woodward Post remains a staple of what it means to be “Springs-y”.

And now, the cultivation of this space passes onto me. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to continue this tradition, and to Rosa, who has entrusted me with it. I can not express how excited I am to share my love for thinking and writing with all of you!

With that, I wish you the best of luck on the upcoming APs, finals, papers, and projects.  May the roads be kind, and may you always plug the USB in correctly on the first try.

Sincerely,

-Sophia Graham
