The Emmys
September 17th was the 69th premiere of the Emmy awards. This event was originally created to honor the television arts and sciences. The dress code is formal, typically black tie, so women wear extravagent dresses and men put new twists on the classic tux. Stars take to the red carpet in their most lavish evening attire as they take pictures, present and receive awards--to them, this is a fun night out with friends.
This year, the actresses looked especially stunning in their ball gowns. There was a wide variety of dress texture, length, and color. We noticed details such as intricate beading and color play throughout the event. From what we’ve seen, the best-dressed at this year's Emmys was Yara Shahidi from the TV series Blackish. Shahidi wore a Prada nude tulle gown, with accents of teal beading around the bodice and throughout the skirt. Her hair looked stunning slicked back with minimal jewelry--a current trend in accessorizing. Laverne Cox also had a beaded dress. She wore a Naeen Kahn head-to-toe gunmetal beaded dress with a sweetheart neckline and a chevron pattern. Sarah Paulson contributed to this category with a silver ankle-length dress. Among those outfitted in bright colors, Viola Davis, who wore a bright orange gown by Zac Posen; and Zoe Kravitz, who wore a multicolored gown with a gorgeous diamond necklace to complete her look.
We love both trends for making a transition into fall, and think they can be easily duplicated in cocktail dress versions for your more casual events. Remember, the more sequins, the better, and a little pop of color never hurts.
