Passing the Torch: A Final Letter from the Editor

Dear Springs,

I can say with confidence that this letter is one of the hardest things I have ever had to write. I’m not sure where to start; should I begin by telling you how ecstatic I am that the talented, dedicated, and amazing Carina Lim has accepted the position as the next Editor in Chief of the Woodward Post? Or should I start by addressing the fact that the Springs community, especially the Class of 2020, is struggling to reconcile that we won’t be coming back to Springs this semester because of a global pandemic? And what about the astute insights a collection of recent Springs graduates agreed to provide for the readers of the Post? Or the fact that this is my last issue as Editor? How do I cram all of these facts, tangled with such strong but contrasting emotions, into a concise letter?

I have come to the conclusion that I cannot. I cannot express my confidence in Carina’s abilities, nor my gratitude for the Springs graduates who sent me a few of their valuable thoughts and advice since graduating. I cannot offer a way for you to understand the pandemic, nor can I offer a way for you to come to terms with the fact that we won’t be able to say a final, in-person goodbye to each other. I cannot thank the Springs community, specifically the Woodward Post community, enough for the years of support, joy, and wisdom.

So, in a moment of overwhelming smallness, I suppose all I can do is leave you with this: stay big. Stay loud. Stay writing. Stay kind. Stay Springs. I will miss you more than you know.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Best,
