Local Man Uses a Record 207 Buzzwords and Platitudes In His TEDx Talk
A local man by the name of Lai Topez, who dropped out of high school due to his Algebra II class being too much of a struggle, gave a TEDx Talk about how an marijuana-fueled bike ride at 3 AM changed his perspective on life. In his talk he made sure to show his humility on full display by first comparing himself to Steve Jobs and Bill Gates since “they dropped out of school too.” After smoking marijuana in his parent’s basement for 4 hours, he decided to go on a bike ride at 3 AM. That’s when, as put by Topez, he “realized that the truth lied in creativity, innovation, and dreaming.” He remembered the phrase “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” from a forced motivational poster from his 6th grade class, and as he said, it inspired him to “go against the grain” and start a business. This business, as he described, “sells words, not materials”. He explained that his business sells sheets of printer paper with inspirational quotes on them such as “nothing is impossible” and “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself” for the mere price of $19.99. With a net worth of $100, Topez is not worried about the financial situation of his business, stating how “all he needs for success is to dream big”. His final words to the audience were to “follow your dreams, for one day you may sell printer paper like me.”
